Mad Media & Best in the Desert Produce the Largest Off-Road Race in the World – The 2012 General Tire Mint 400

LAS VEGAS, March 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — The 2012 General Tire Mint 400 was held March 21st – March 24th, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Over nine-hundred racers, spanning fourteen countries and three-hundred professional off-road race teams, competed in twenty classes of vehicles – and battled 400 miles of grueling Nevada desert! The highly coveted Mint 400 Championship went to Robby Gordon, who piloted his SPEED Energy, Class 1500 racecar to victory – with a margin of three minutes over the second place overall finisher and Class 1400 winner Rob MacCachren. Third place overall went to Adam Householder of Householder Motorsports.

The Mint 400 festivities were held on Fremont Street from Wednesday through Friday night, and included a “Pit Crew Challenge,” official Mint 400 party, the crowning of the new Miss Mint 400, Vanessa Golub-Ferrara, and the famous vehicle parade and tech inspection. Estimates on attendance top sixty-five thousand – including the over fifteen-thousand spectators that watched the race for free, near Jean, Nevada on Saturday, March 24th.

“The Mint 400 is now the biggest off-road race event on the planet!” said Mint 400 CEO Matt Martelli. “Between the largest group of world-class off-road racers ever assembled…all of their crews and families, and the wonderful support of our fans and spectators from all over the United States – we came close to seventy-thousand people throughout the week. It was a fantastic day of racing for teams and fans, and not a single person was injured. That’s amazing!”

The Mad Media production crew covered the event from both the ground and the air – employing thirty seasoned off-road cinematographers, photographers, and producers, as well as a custom A-Star helicopter that was outfitted with a Cineflex camera system, capable of capturing steady images at over 140mph.

“The Mint 400 Facebook analytics show us that we reached 1.25 Million people over the weekend. That’s an amazing value for our sponsors and race teams and really proves that we are on the way to making this the most important annual race event in the world. We have begun production on a one-hour television special and iTunes download that will showcase all the great stories from the race. This has been a fantastic experience for all of us,” commented Mint 400 COO Joshua Martelli.

What is Juvenile Diabetes and Why Should You Help?

The Rusty Unlimited racing team is dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes. To do so, owner of the Rusty Unlimited team Rusty Stevens and Owner of VF Marketing Christy Thom founded Fuel the Cure. Through their race team and Fuel the Cure, Rusty and Christy are able to raise awareness and financial aid to donate to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). Fuel the Cure needs your help to find a cure. Many people are unaware of what juvenile diabetes is or even why help is needed.

Juvenile diabetes is also referred to as type 1 diabetes. The reason it is referred to as “juvenile” is that it is most commonly on set while a person is a child or young adult. Type 1 diabetes is commonly passed through genes, but can be attached to a dominant, recessive, or both genes. Type 1 can also be brought on by diet and chemicals or drugs as well as theorized to be brought on by some viruses. Type 1 diabetes is caused by the pancreas’ inability to produce insulin, needed to metabolize fat and carbohydrates in order for the body’s cells to accept them.

Although in most cases type 1 can be treated, it can not yet be cured. Type 1 must be closely monitored by extracting a drop of blood, usually from the fingertips, and injecting insulin as needed. In rare cases a pancreas transplant can be performed but is very risky. There are also many experimental methods being performed such as islet cell transplantation, which requires transplanting islet cells into the liver to produce insulin. The struggle with this procedure is that the body sees these cells as foreign and attacks.

When someone donates to Fuel the Cure that money goes towards the research necessary to find a cure. Millions of adults and children live with type 1 and must do the job of their own pancreas. Could you imagine as a child, or even as an adult, having to take up the responsibility of one of your organs in order to survive? Unfortunately it is all too real and we must do what we can to find a cure.
